Aaron
McGregor
Aaron
McGregor was raised in a small town in post-industrial
Pennsylvania. Following high school, he moved from
the Allegheny Valley to Antwerp, Belgium where he
studied languages and art. After receiving his diploma,
Aaron traveled to Tucson, AZ where he studied studio
arts with a
photography emphasis. He earned his BFA from the University
of Arizona in 1995. He has exhibited in Tucson and
Pittsburgh.
Aaron
is interested in the diversity of the photographic
medium as well as experimentations with light. He
would rather create a photo that describes nothing
as opposed to one that reveals the obvious. Fashion
images project ideals and identities. Photojournalism
reports the news as facts.
Both disciplines can distort and manipulate. Aaron
prefers to distort and manipulate the process of photography
rather than rely on the medium’s traditional
role of conveying the explicit.
All
of his works represent manipulation, deception, distortion,
and detachment; tools commonly used today to create
and enhance our sense of utopia.
