Annette Poitau

Annette Poitau's paintings are rich in color and texture. Even when abstract, they are grounded in dynamic natural forms, especially those of the human body. Every painting is a sort of intimate dance with matter and primordial gestures, a dialogue between her will and the chemical reaction of the colors, their disappearance and their reemergence in new in carnations. The painting reveals itself with time. It makes its own sense, discovers its soul.

Annette Poitau hails from northern france. She received her MFA with honors from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. She also studied at the Copper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. After exhibiting her work extensively in France, she moved to california, where she lived for the past 12 years. She now resides in Ohio. She has a studio at Oberlin now working full time.

Poitau's paintings are displayed in private and public collections in the U.S., throughout Europe, and in Japan. In the Bay area, her artwork may be viewed at the Janice Rowell Gallery in Pacifica and she had some works at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery in San Francisco.
