Michael Del Greco
This
body of work was born of my spite for the fetters
of context. What I have sought to do is create work
that is very aesthetically, emotionally, and personally
accessible to everybody. I have consciously shed the
trappings of literal imagery or direct reference,
with the aim of not alienating any one viewer. The
work is split in 2 distinct mediums -which is reflective
of my multi-disciplinary approach to art making- yet
the work is unified through content, or perhaps more
accurately, its lack there of. All of the pieces in
this series are oblique, and non-referential. They
have no subject, though they are ripe with potential
for it. Much like the deliberately vague, and often
self-contradictory, constructs of religious systems,
the paintings should engender a compelling sense of
identity. They tell stories to make you feel comfortable,
but give you no more meaning than you put into them.
The photography is abstract, and implies content,
though provides none. They can be whatever you decide.
The titles are in gibberish.
