Michael Del Greco
Jay Del Greco's purpose is to give shape to shapeless things. None of it has any concrete meaning of its own. Like anything, it can mean whatever the viewer wants. He has no interest in imposing any of his own meanings upon anyone else. Essentially everything that he creates is a self-portrait in the sense that he aims to accomplish nothing other than a complete expression of himself or a facet of himself, and the full indulgence of his own vision with each piece. That being said, the work from Del Greco's series "The Albatross" purpose is to palpably express time, weight, heat, distress, and solitude. It's drawn from Del Greco's personal relationships and life experiences.
From a technical standpoint, Del Greco only works with materials pulled from the real world. He does not buy any of my materials from art supply stores. Each piece is very sculptural mixed media, generally on wood, involving any combination of house paint, spray paint, polyurethane, epoxy resin, burnt wood, various rusted metals, twine, string, yarn, duct tape, electrical tape, wire, cloth, vinyl, permanent marker, pencil, photos, and/or various found objects.
