4 Lydia no. 5
Oil on Canvas

Ryder Henry

Ryder Henry was born in Oxford, UK in 1974.  During much of his childhood, Henry lived overseas with his sister and his father who teaches at a university. They lived in Michigan, Lebanon, Cyprus, California, France, and Texas.  Starting in the 8th grade, Henry built cardboard copies of the 'Star Trek' spaceships. In high school, Henry sculpted ceramic human figures and started painting imaginary landscapes with acrylics.

Henry went to Rhode Island School of Design where he took courses in Industrial Design, Film, and Painting. He left school after 2 years, remaining in Rhode Island for a 3rd year during which he painted oil canvases of sports heroes for an insurance salesman.

Henry then went to see his mother in Portland, OR, which can be a very beautiful place for painting. So he did that for a while.

Henry then moved around some more, making more paintings and other things.

In Spring '05, Henry started building the cardboard model city '4 Lydia', named after his friends' street address at the time.  Ever since, Henry has been mostly focused on the city, adding to it, exchanging pieces and painting pictures of it. He has also gotten back into the spaceship construction, which he had largely abandoned since age 16.

This time around, they are improved with lights inside them, as well as being of original design, or at least less blatant sci-fi regurgitation.
