Todd Pinkham
Painter
Todd Pinkham uses texture, layer, line and symbol
to create work that tells its own story. The traditional
elements of his paintings come together with a modern
edge and symbolism that calls the viewer's own personal
story into question. By taking worldly symbols, such
as moons, stars, skulls, hearts, etc, Pinkham personifies
them with a twist of reality. For example, Pinkham's
painting "Eve" looks at the possibility
that Adam emerged from her and thus brought forth
the earth and all creation. In his painting "Sun
and Moon," man is caught between two very different
celestial events. This procession is sublime and eternal.
It is a dichotomy and a metaphor of epic proportion
and has been enacted for man in all civilizations,
through all time. The sun and the moon are the Alpha
and Omega, yet they repeat again and again. Life and
death, which they profoundly symbolize, coexist as
well and it is in the space between that the sun and
moon only belong to man. Pinkham's personal and meticulous
scrutiny of every aspect of our waking life is pursued
in his paintings with spiritual and symbolic zeal.
His work strives, as we all do, for personal successes
and displays the viewer's own addiction to experiences
that make us build idols to our excesses.
